More like Xmas than Hallowe'ener + bonus bikey video

A very happy package arrived in the mail a couple days ago from Jimmy Bean's Wool. Ah yes, that tasty tasty Malabrigo I had ordered some weeks before for a very special scarf project-

Oh yeah, its yummy and plus what could be nicer for cuddling up in bed with, alongside an Oso and a good book- King-Cat Classix by John Porcellino (get your copy now, dear readers!! Be laughing in bed- (alone or with your sweetie!)- on the next cloudy Saturday morning or whenever/wherever you happen to be reading- you won't regret it! It is beautiful and brilliant!!!)

More yarny goodness, the Malabrigo again, and the book, open to one of my favorite pages- just because-

one more-

oh, could it be more delicious?
Here it is, looking like a very tempting pastry indeed-

Ok, so enough of that.
Because there is so much more!
Friday night was very auspicious, as John P. spoke and showed slides last night at Quimby's- El Oso and I popped in to see/hear, which is how we came to buy the book. With every intention of having it signed by the author, too- except we had to run because of another engagement- Chicago Critical Mass Happy Hour, taking place in the home of friends- thus we ducked out early, but not before a small greeting/much appreciated hug exchanged with John P. (the back story being- I may not have gotten to know John P. at all if it hadn't been for his friendship with John R., my late-great beloved Big Dawg. It did make me slightly sad because John R. wasn't there to see the book- as he was always very proud and supportive of the creative efforts of friends. Plus John P. has had many kind words to say about John R. which have been very helpful and comforting to me over the course of this year. Thanks John P.! -It was also quite nice to see Katherine, another very special friend of the Big Dawg, who was there. The last time I was at a reading at Quimby's was with John R., and friends Picasso and Darlene- so the evening was a teensy bit bittersweet, but in the moment- hearing the stories about King-Cat- more sweet than bitter. One slide, a drawing of a starry sky and nothing more, the last frame of a story of walking home from high school on a fall evening, did bring tears to my eyes, briefly. Beautiful.)

After we slipped out of the reading, we dashed off to CCM Happy Hour, which was interesting in so many ways, not the least being it was hosted by none other than someone whose face has appeared on this very Knit-A-Log! See entry- from 9/29- Kicking Ass-Critical Mass! Scroll down and find her- yes! The woman with the pretty dress! A friend of a friend! Coincidences never cease! (thanks again Hui Hwa and Mark for hosting! Such a great party!) It was good to see bikey friends, new and old, in person, relaxed and blissfully not being pursued by flashing blue lights! There was much eating of yummy food, sitting around a fire in the backyard and chatting on the back porch, and discussion of bikey topics.

Speaking of which- dear readers, I give you the visual splendor that is Travesty and the flip bike-

Oh yes! Note the stopping prowess at the end!! Amazing.
Thanks to Travesty for permission to re-post!

Saturday, knitting friend Hali, who is in town from Atlanta, met me and we went to Nina, among other places. Hali is a much stronger woman than I and managed to buy nothing, while I was helpless against the allure of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in a colorway called, of all things, Tuscany, which may, on some other day, have put me off. But the colors, the colors. Its fall. There was nothing I could do.
And besides, I've decided. Its time to knit socks again.
Look for pictures to come.
