May Critical Mass photos
It was the last Friday of the month, and the weather was not exactly optimal for a bike ride, but nice enough, once we were moving along. The ride was nice and uneventful- a good thing! No one fell on their head or got arrested- if a teensy bit chilly.
And plus there were several dogs riding along, including Joey, canine companion of Kathy, who never rides without her helmet when she's cruising in The Ultimate Alternative Fuel Vehicle (sticker on the side of her basket, plus the yellow sign on the back says Bicycling is a Quiet Statement Against Oil Wars. Right on my canine sister)- especially true when you don't have to pedal!

And plus she has the nicest whiskers! And her nose is extremely fine!
Note streamlined shape on the dog-helmet! Its built for speed!

Here is my favorite photo of the evening-

Chanel! Could she be more glamorous?? Darlings, you can't even see the rhinestone collar. Omg. She sends air kisses, all you lovelies!
On to the humans- there was some yarny business going on!

I got a couple of shots because I loved this fender treatment! Here is the close-up-

Because every pony needs a proper tail! Awesome.
Some of you might recognize this character!

Its Travesty, entertaining the crowd on his flip-bike! Apparently he didn't flip successfully, but Mr. Goddamn Sunshine and I were at another end of the plaza, and thus missed the action. He did create quite a commotion, and the bike itself, with him on it, is something of a spectacle even when its just moving along in the crowd. Throughout the evening, a large purple halo could be seen snaking around in the mass of helmeted heads.
As is his custom, Alex provided the best of all the musical soundtracks from the mobile sound system-

Its sort of like Groove Salad which has become my new favorite thing. It will put your brain in a happy place. Really! And plus is highly recommended background music for drawing and/or knitting. Before you know it you will be in the zone.
Anyway, back to the ride!

We ended at the beach, not far from where I live, which is always a big bonus. The buildings and the bicycles were twinkling in the cool twilight-

Some booty shakin' went down-

And thus, the first nice-ish weather ride drew to a close, not exactly the long sweaty summer ride I was hoping for, but there will be June, July and August, and what with global warming, perhaps November.
Also, there is the World Naked Bike Ride to look forward to on June 9th, where one can, if one is inclined, Protest Oil Dependency and Showcase One's Gorgeous Self Love! Will I make it this year!? Stay tuned for developments.
