tulips and cupcakes

For your viewing pleasure!
The photos are of the garden at the house where Marcel and the Big Dawg live! Their landlady is also a landscaper, thus the bonus of beauty for the rental dollar. And what a wonderful bonus it is in springtime, when the tyranny of the beautiful day is upon us in full force! And you know its the real deal this time, because not only are the flowers out, but Marcel's friend the Hot Dog Lady is back in the park! Uh-oh.
We avoided her for today, but did spend a fair amount of time in the park with a new young friend, Christopher, who asks an awful lot of questions about a little dawg's private affairs, really!!!
In addition to informing us that he, Christopher, is about to turn 5, and is very excited about starting kindergarten (and who am I to burst the little guy's bubble? Much as I was tempted to I didn't tell him its downhill from there.) he really wanted to know did Marcel have a skeleton? Did Marcel have a brain? And had he had a bath before we came to the park?
Plus, do I cut his nails? Does he bite bad guys? And plus, Who cut off Marcel's tail? Did I do it? (Nooooooooo!!!!)
And the big question on Chris's 5-year-old mind~ does Marcel have a wiener??? This comes up a lot, when I bring Marcel near the playground. Its a delicate situation, because really, should a stranger in the park be explaining these things to unattended children?? In general I try to confirm without being overly graphic,
(animals pee, so yes, the boy ones have wieners, Marcel included) then steer attention to more neutral dog anatomy, like the nose. Marcel's nose is very soft, I usually point out. And he doesn't mind at all if you pat it.
Our young friend also wanted to know if Marcel did tricks (no), if he ever stood on his hind legs (yes), why his front paws were white and his back paws mostly black (dunno), why Marcel was sniffing everything (like I know these things? Because he's a dog!), if Marcel would fight the other dogs in the park (no, fighting is bad), where we lived (far away), and if we were coming back later (maybe. Bye!!!) and why I had picked up Marcel and was running away from the park.
But I digress.

there is a very special intimacy about seeing the alignment of your teeth as revealed by the grooves that they have engraved into the frosting...
